Getting To and Around Wellington

There are plenty of car park buildings in close vicinity to most venues. Parking costs between $3-4 per hour depending on the time of day.


The main train station is approximately 2 km away from the CBD and walking distance into the centre of Wellington. There is a taxi stand and a major bus terminal in front of the station.


Wellington International Airport is around 8 kilometres by road south east of Wellington city. The quickest and simplest route is to follow the State Highway 1 signs which take you through the Mount Victoria Tunnel. The trip takes between 15-30 minutes depending on the time of day.

Taxis from the airport to the city cost around $30, shuttles $15-20. The Airport Flyer bus stop is located on the ground level, at the southern end of the terminal. It shuttles betweeen the airport and Upper Hutt through Wellington city every 15min every day. Adult fares range from $5 -14 depending on distance.

Festival bookseller

There are more than 35 writers, poets and journalists in the line-up of the 2010 New Zealand Post Writers and Readers Week. Most of their books will be available for sale at the Embassy Theatre courtesy of our Festival bookseller Unity Books.  If you want to catch up on Festival literature before the week starts, visit Unity Books at 57 Willis St, Wellington or e-mail them at
